The Saint John’s Fires (Feux de la Saint Jean), a famous Catalan tradition, will return this summer to Argelès-sur-Mer, on June 23, 2025. The flame, which started from the summit of Canigou and has crossed all of Pyrénées-Orientales, will arrive around 8 PM at the port of Argelès. It will then be placed on a llagut de rem (Catalan rowing boat) to be escorted to Gambetta Square (Place Gambetta).
The making of Ramallets
At 10 a.m., you can make the famous ramallets bouquets at the Casa de l’Albera. It is said that these bouquets protect those who keep them throughout the year, and that the following year, when they are thrown into the fire, they burn away all past misfortunes. The ramallets made in the morning will be distributed at Gambetta Square at 7 p.m.
Festivities on Gambetta Square
Starting at 7 p.m., join with family or friends at Gambetta Square to enjoy the activities offered: choirs and singing, sardanes and traditional dances, castells (human towers)… Discover the Catalan traditions in the red and yellow colors of our region.
An unforgettable evening
After traveling this entire route, the flame will be lit at 10 p.m. to ignite the big Saint John’s fire. Muscat wine and rousquilles, sweet wine and traditional Catalan cake, will be offered to the public. Musicians will also be present to bring this beautiful evening to life with the rhythms of Catalan traditions.
